Eugenio Scalfari is the founder of the Italian daily La Repubblica and served as its editor from 1976 to 1996. Since then he has been the newspaper’s Sunday columnist. He is the winner of many journalism awards and was honoured with the title Cavaliere di Gran Croce by Italian President Oscar Luigi Scalfaro in 1996.
