Gulsin Harman

International Press Institute

Based in Istanbul, Gülsin Harman was the country coordinator for International Press Institute's (IPI) digital project On the Line. The main aim of the project is to collect data about online attacks against journalists and provide both legal and technical help to the victims. Given the recurrent attacks such as online harassment, smear campaigns, throttling of social media, blockings, hackings of personal accounts, existence of troll armies in Turkey, she is focused on press freedom and digital rights.

Being a Turkish journalist, she is inevitably interested in research concentrated on post-truth issues, propaganda, information wars, implication of conspiracy theories, media manipulation, political engagement by the means of Internet.

She is a former foreign news editor and reporter. Her journalistic work spanned diplomatic reporting, features on democracy issues and interviews with leading international experts. She was awarded with United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Journalism Fellowship in 2013. Currently she is working for various international news outlets in Turkey.
