Three quarters of the journalists who died in 2023 were Palestinians killed by Israel during the Israel-Gaza war. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, more journalists died in the first 10 weeks of the war than have ever been killed in a single country in an entire year. So, why did international solidarity for Gazan colleagues feel so lacking and what does this mean for local journalists and international news outlets in the region in the months and years to come?
