Beth Goldberg

Beth Goldberg is the Head of Research & Development at Jigsaw, a Google unit that explores threats to open societies. She leads an interdisciplinary team of researchers who investigate online harms from disinformation to violent extremism, and then test novel mitigation strategies. Beth works closely in partnership with academics, civil society, and practitioners to both advise tech platforms on evidence-based approaches and to advance the field. Beth has conducted and published ethnographies with former white supremacists, Islamists, harassers and conspiracy theorists to understand their online lives firsthand.

Prior to joining Jigsaw, she managed programs for the US Department of State with Freedom House focusing on digital security, investigative journalism and information access in authoritarian regimes. For this work, she lived and worked in Jordan, Kenya, and Liberia. Beth holds graduate degrees from Yale where she concentrated in Internet Governance and a BS in International Security Studies and Arabic from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service.
