Eve Fairbanks, a journalist based in Johannesburg, South Africa, writes about change, digging into the motivations of people who radically alter their social or political identities. A graduate of Yale in political philosophy and a former staff writer for The New Republic, Eve’s reported essays frequently appear in The Guardian Long Reads and the Huffington Post, among other outlets. Her reporting has been nominated for a Livingston Award, the top American prize for journalists under 35. Her book The Inheritors, on post-apartheid South Africa, will be published by Simon & Schuster in 2021.
