Sarah El Deeb
Sarah El Deeb has been an Associated Press (AP) journalist since 2000, with extensive experience reporting in the Middle East. She joined AP’s Global Investigative team in 2021 shortly before Russia launched its war on Ukraine and is part of the War Crimes Watch Ukraine, a collaborative project with Frontline (PBS) to gather, verify and document evidence of potential war crimes in Ukraine. Among other stories, she investigated Moscow's deportation of Ukrainian children, orphans and adults to Russia and Russian-controlled territories.
Previously El Deeb was AP’s Syria and Lebanon correspondent, based in Beirut, covering the Syrian civil war, Lebanon's economic and political crises. She produced a year-long investigation about the Islamic State group's enslavement policy of Iraq's Yazidis and international efforts to bring the militants to justice for committing genocide against the minority religious group.
