Madhav Chinnappa
Madhav Chinnappa is a media consultant who has worked globally at the intersection of news, technology and most recently AI for more than two decades in both the commercial and public interest sectors. He is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford University where he is exploring the relationship between foundation models and news publishers in the era of Gen AI. He is also on the Future Insights Board of Mediahuis, the Belgian multinational news organisation. Recently he has been advising Human Native AI, an AI data startup which was acquired by Cloudflare, as well as leading a thought leadership event series around AI and news for the Thomson Foundation.
Prior to that he was Director of News Ecosystem Development at Google and has extensive experience with journalism innovation, funding and sustainability including launching the DNI Fund, the GNI Innovation Challenge programme and the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund. He has worked in the news industry since 1994 - first in the launch team of Associated Press Television (APTV), a year in M&A at United News & Media and spent over 9 years at BBC News, latterly as Head of Development and Rights.
